4th Grade Field Trip

Hello 4A Parents!

The 4th Grade will have their field trip on March 21st (the Thursday after Spring Break). We’re going to the Arizona Museum of Natural History and the Mesa Grande Cultural Park. We’re excited about this field trip, because it will support our 4thgrade curriculum so well, especially our units about geology and Arizona history!

We need 4 parent chaperones per classroom to come with us and chaperone about 5 students each. We will meet at school at 9:00, with the goal of leaving by 9:30 to arrive at the museum by 10am. The field trip will last until about 1:30, with lunch on site, and we should be back at school by 2pm. Students will need to bring their own bag lunches and water bottles

If you are interested in chaperoning, please email me to let me know!

Yours in partnership,

Ms. Alford and Mrs. Gore

Great Hearts Day

Hello, 4A Parents!

At Archway Lincoln, we will not celebrate Valentine’s Day as it is traditionally celebrated in schools, but will instead celebrate Great Hearts Day on Thursday, February 14th.  Our class will have a short celebration, the focus of which is on friendship and kind-heartedness, not gifts and candy.

Our classroom liaison and I will plan a celebration during which the students will enjoy activities that recognize what it means to be a good friend. Our hope is that each child is celebrated for the ways in which he or she demonstrates Friendship in our classroom and community.

Please remember that students are not to bring in any Valentine’s cards or treats for their classmates. We will take care of showing our appreciation for our friends during our party. If any student brings in Valentines or candy, we will need to put them in the backpack to be returned home.

Thank you for your consideration of this special day and of the traditions here at Archway Lincoln!

Feel free to e-mail Mrs. Gore and me if you have any questions.

Warmly,

Ms. Alford

Literary Character Day

Good afternoon, 4A Families!

A few updates about Dress Like Your Favorite Literary Character Day next Wednesday (October 31):

  • On Literary Character Day, your child may dress up as an approved literary character or in their uniform. They should not come in regular "street clothes."

  • One of my favorite parts of our day is towards the end, when students will read with a flashlight and blanket. It is a cozy and calm time before we send them back out to you. To that end, please send your child with a flashlight and blanket or pillow on Wednesday.

  • A Sign-Up from our wonderful liaison should be coming around in the next few days for snacks (healthy and non-candy, preferably not Halloween themed) and volunteers. We would like four volunteers to help with a Reader's Theater activity and with a bookmark-making/snack time. If that is something you would like to do or help with, please keep an eye out for that sign-up coming in the next few days.

On an unrelated note, I know that some of the students in our class are auditory learners and might benefit from an audio version of "Paul Revere's Ride." Here is a link to a Youtube video of Sean Astin reading the poem. I recommend looking up a recording of the poem if your child does better memorizing by sound.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and enjoy the marginally cooler weather!
